From October 2009 till July 2010 John was involved with sitting volleyball in Great Britain. He started with the national women sitting volleyball team with the goal to participate at the Paralympics 2012. The purpose was not only to be the head coach of the team, but also to ensure the sustainability of this sport as a recognised and appreciated sport in the country even after the Paralympics in London in 2012 . John became the first ever head coach of Great Britain women sitting volleyball team in May 2010. At the World Championships 2010 (their first tournament ever), the national women team of Great Britain won a bronze medal in the B-Division. Until now, it is still the only podium place the team has ever had.

After the World Championship 2010, Volleyball England terminated immediately the contract with John without a clear explanation. Despite not winning a match or even a set, the Great Britain women sitting volleyball was active at the Paralympics 2012.
