From 2010 till 2013 John Bestebroer visited Uganda many times. Delivering sports materials and sports clothes and organising training and courses, it became an educational and enjoyable period.

In 2011, the head coach of Uganda suddenly disappeared a few weeks before the Africa Championships sitting volleyball and the London 2012 qualification tournament, in Kigali-Rwanda. At the last moment, John was asked to take over this job during the tournament and to educate and support the assistant coach as the new head coach for the upcoming tournaments (London 2012).
