John Bestebroer is an Olympic collector. He has some interesting items including personal things.

Gerrit Voorting won the silver Olympic medal in London 1948 during the Olympic Games as a cyclist. John bought this medal around 2001 and was planning to sell this London 1948 medal in an auction at the Olympics in London 2012. The money of the medal should go to the foundation  Sport Compass, whose founder and CEO is John, for the promotion of Paralympic sports worldwide. Different offers were already made and from Japan somebody was willing to pay €15.000.

Then on Dutch television there was an interview with Gerrit Voorting at the age of 89 years old. He told on Dutch television on the openings day of the Olympics London 2012 that the medal had been gone already for many years because a few weeks after the Olympics in 1948 he gave it to a family member and then it disappeared. When John Bestebroer heard this news, he immediately stopped the auction and gave back the medal to the man who won this medal in 1948. After 64 years the medal came back in the hands of Gerrit Voorting.

No money for John Bestebroer and his foundation, but a good feeling and massive respect of others by bringing back this medal.

Gerrit Voorting died in January 2015 at the age of 92 year.
